(Sports Network) - Its not a matter of if the Boston Red Sox are going to clinch a postseason spot, its a matter of when. The Beantown faithful hope its Thursday, as the Red Sox try to salvage the finale of their three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park. Boston could have clinched at least a wild card berth on Wednesday with a win over the Os coupled with a Cleveland loss in Kansas City. The Royals did their part in taking out the Indians, but Boston failed to hold up its end of the bargain, as Chris Davis two-run single in the 12th inning proved to be the difference in Baltimores 5-3 triumph. "Anytime youre in a game like that, you want to be the guy that gets the hit," said Davis. "Whether its a squirter up the middle or a home run or whatever it is." Matt Wieters doubled twice and drove in two, while Brian Roberts added two hits and an RBI for the Orioles, who have taken three in a row and four of five. T.J. McFarland (2-1) tossed a scoreless 11th and Jim Johnson did the same in the bottom of the 12th for his 47th save as Baltimore crept within a game of Texas for the final AL wild card spot as the Rangers fell in extra innings to Tampa Bay. David Ortiz hit a two-run shot and Mike Napoli added a solo blast for the Red Sox, whose magic number for clinching the AL East remains at three. "I felt like we hit a lot of balls hard, I think it was 17 hits or something but we just couldnt get that big hit," said Red Sox catcher David Ross. Franklin Morales (2-2) was charged for three hits and the winning runs over two relief innings. The champagne may stay on ice Thursday, too, as the Red Sox go up against right-hander Chris Tillman, who is 16-6 with a 3.70 ERA. Tillman, though, has lost two of his last three starts and was beaten by Toronto his last time out, as he gave up four runs in eight innings. Tillman, who has pitched eight innings in four of his last 11 outings, is 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in four starts against the Red Sox this year, including a win on Aug. 29, when he held them to two runs over seven innings at Fenway Park. Boston, meanwhile, will rely on veteran right-hander John Lackey, who is 9-12 with a 3.56 ERA. Lackey will be happy to be facing a team other than the New York Yankees, who roughed him up to the tune of 11 runs and 15 hits in his last two outings spanning 12 innings. Lackey has pitched to a 4.35 ERA in three starts against the Orioles. Baltimore has won nine of its 15 meetings with the Red Sox this season. Paul Coffey Jersey . Ryu (8-3) allowed a run and three hits in six innings and struck out six in his 13th start. In his first 13 starts last season -- his first in the major leagues -- the left-hander was 8-5 with a 2.85 ERA. This was the ninth time this year that Ryu has allowed fewer than three earned runs, and he is 7-0 in those games. Jean-Francois Jacques Jersey . Cleveland released the troubled wide receiver on Wednesday, an expected ending after Bess was arrested in January for assaulting a law enforcement officer at an airport and other bizarre behaviour. http://www.officialoilersfanstore.com/au...-oilers-jersey/. The day began ominously for the Rangers when star pitcher Yu Darvish was scratched from his scheduled start with stiffness in his neck. Fill-in Scott Baker gave up three hits over six innings and Chris Gimenez hit a tiebreaking two-out RBI single in the sixth off Phil Hughes. Andrew Ference Jersey .com) - Patrick Reed poured in a 19-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole Monday to defeat Jimmy Walker and win the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Benoit Pouliot Jersey . -- A.J. Burnett was happy to escape from New York.MILWAUKEE -- Carlos Delfino has undergone a second surgery on his injured right foot and he isnt sure whether he will join the Milwaukee Bucks on the court this season. "Its time to wait now," Delfino said Thursday from his home in Argentina. After the injury last May while with Houston, Delfino signed a three-year, $9.75 million deal with the Bucks in July and expected to be ready to go when training camp opened in October. Instead, he was forced to have a second surgery and is expected to be off the foot for at least eight weeks. "We tried something different," Delfino said. "A high-level shock therapy but we didnt have results so we -- me and the organization -- decided to have another surgery and take those screws and plate out." As for his recovery, Delfino said he has heard three months, six months and more. "But it depends on the situation and how the body reacts. Im not going to rush again," he said. Delfinos injury is one of many that have in part led the Bucks to a 5-20 mark, worst in the Eastern Conference. In all, the Bucks have had nine players miss a total of 88 games due to injury, leading coach Larry Drew to use 13 different lineups. Milwaukee got mixed news on the injury front Thursday. Forward Caron Butler, out since Nov. 29 with a knee sprain, is listed as probable for Friday, when the Bucks play at Cleveland. Hoowever, forward Ersan Ilyasova is out indefinitely with a lingering ankle injury.dddddddddddd "He cant push off, he cant move laterally, he cant explode," Drew said. "He is a shell of himself because of that ankle." Gary Neal is also out indefinitely and now wearing a boot as he battles a case of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Neal was in uniform Wednesday when Milwaukee lost to New York in double-overtime but did not play. He will not travel to Cleveland, nor will Zaza Paculia, who suffered a fractured right foot Dec. 4. "You have to try and manage and weather the storm," Butler said. "We need to get the right groups out there and remain positive. Adversity builds character." Notes O.J. Mayo also missed the Knicks game in order to attend his grandmothers funeral. He will be available Friday in Cleveland. ... Rookie forward Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the Knicks in his first career start ... Center Larry Sanders hasnt played since tearing a ligament in his thumb during an altercation at a downtown Milwaukee nightclub Nov. 3. Sanders recently had his cast removed and began working out at the teams training facility but has yet to participate in practice. Said Drew: "From the things hes been doing out here, I would think hes getting pretty close."
