Ryan Ellis gave Canada a two-goal lead with his marker late in the opening frame. With 1:13 remaining in the first period, Canadas Nazem Kadri was hit from behind by Simon Moser. With Thomas Ruefenacht already in the penalty box for slashing; Canada was awarded a two-man advantage.
