DALLAS -- The way the New Jersey Devils defence played on Thursday night, they didnt need much offence. What they did need, the Devils got from Patrik Elias. Elias scored a power-play goal 40 seconds into overtime to give the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars. "It always comes back to bite you when you play that poorly and take a penalty," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. New Jersey allowed only 16 shots and scored twice on the power play. "Huge, two power-play goals," New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer said. "It probably didnt need to get to overtime if we could have buried some of our chances, but we did on the power play and that was critical." The Stars tied the score on Tyler Seguins goal with 52 seconds remaining in regulation play. Dainius Zubrus scored in the first period and Travis Zajac added a goal in the second to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Jamie Benn scored on a backhand at 10:52 of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Devils, allowing the fewest shots per game of any NHL team, held Dallas to its season low. Cory Schneider made 14 saves for his second victory over the Stars this season. Elias and Zajac each had an assist and Jaromir Jagr assisted on two goals for New Jersey. Seguin added an assist for Dallas. Kari Lehtonen made 21 saves. He has allowed only six goals in losing three of his last four games against New Jersey The Devils dominated early. Dallas didnt put a shot on goal until a 5-on-3 advantage more than five minutes in. Even during that 75-second stretch, the Stars had only one shot. "Im embarrassed myself with that," Seguin said. "Thats unacceptable." Ruff said: "It was just a killer." DeBoer called the 5-on-3 penalty kill "huge." "It would have been easy there to lose our focus. We didnt. We buckled down. To get out of the first period up was key." New Jersey scored first, at 10:59 of the first period. Zubrus sent a slap shot from the right faceoff circle over Lehtonens glove and into the right corner. Dallas had its best scoring chance a minute and a half before the end of the first period. Cody Eakin took a pass in the slot but shot the puck into Schneiders body. For the period, New Jersey outshot the Stars 7-4. The four shots tied Dallas season low for a period. Lehtonen prevented another Devils goal three minutes into the second period when he made a glove save on Zajac while prone on the ice. Zajac did score on a power play at 9:50 of the second, when he tipped Damien Brunners drive past Lehtonen. Barely a minute later, Dallas broke through for its first goal against Schneider in more than 90 minutes this season. Benn took a pass from Seguin with his back to the goal and backhanded the puck into the net. New Jersey again had an advantage in shots, 7-6, with the Devils final two shots short-handed NOTES: Schneider has the only shutout against Dallas this season, with 26 saves in a 1-0 victory Jan. 9. . The team said the 52-year-old Kubiak experienced "dizziness and a light-headed feeling" during Sunday nights game before being taken by ambulance to a hospital. The Texans have not said what caused the problem, saying only that Kubiak has gone through a battery of tests and is with his family. "Gary is alert, coherent and in good spirits," general manager Rick Smith said Monday as questions swirled about the coachs health. "He is continuing to be evaluated and monitored." Kubiak will remain at the hospital for at least the next 24 hours, the team said, leaving the reeling Texans, losers of six straight, left to wonder when hell return. "There was a lot of unknown," said defensive co-ordinator Wade Phillips, who coached the team after halftime. "Everything was unknown as to what was going on and what happened to Kube." Kubiak hunched over and dropped to his knees at the 24-yard line and he was immediately surrounded by medical personnel. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and put in an ambulance. Kubiak has been head coach in Houston since 2006, a former NFL quarterback who calls the teams plays. The Texans were a trendy Super Bowl pick in the off-season and started 2-0, but the season had turned into a disaster even before Sunday night. "Its on your mind when youre out there playing," receiver Andre Johnson said. "But you try to focus on the game and just go out and do your job." Up 21-3 when Kubiak collapsed, the Texans struggled after halftime as the Colts rallied for a win. Veteran safety Ed Reed didnt want to blame the loss on what happened to Kubiak, who has never publicly disclosed any health problems. "I thought we dealt with it well," Reed said. "Weve just got to finish." Kubiaks collapse came a day after Denver Broncos coach John Fox was hospitalized in North Carolina as he awaits aortic valve replacement surgery. Thee 58-year-old Fox will have surgery and miss several weeks while recuperating.dddddddddddd Fox had been told earlier about his heart condition and was hoping to put off the operation until February. On Saturday, Fox became dizzy playing golf near his off-season home in Charlotte and was taken to a hospital, where tests revealed he couldnt wait any longer. Kubiak made his mark as Denvers offensive co-ordinator under Mike Shanahan, winning two Super Bowls. An eighth-round pick out of Texas A&M, he spent nine years as John Elways backup. He finished his career 4-1 as a starter, all in emergency relief of Elway. Kubiak has long been known as a top offensive coach, mentoring quarterbacks in Denver and now Matt Schaub -- and Case Keenum -- in Houston. Kubiak was hired in 2006, along with Smith, after the Texans finished a franchise-worst 2-14. Smith spent 10 years with Kubiak while the coach was offensive co-ordinator of the Broncos. The pair has helped transform the Texans, which began play in 2002, from league laughingstock to contender. The team went 6-10 in their first year and 8-8 in each of the next two seasons. Expectations were high in 2010 after Houston finished at 9-7 for its first winning record in 2009. But the Texans instead fell to 6-10, which led to many fans calling for Kubiaks firing. His original contract was due to expire after the 2010 season, but owner Bob McNair has stepped up to keep Kubiak and defend him several times amid the bumps. Last year, the Texans announced contract extensions for both Smith and Kubiak, rewarding them for taking the team to the playoffs last year for the first time. Kubiaks three-year agreement has him under contract through 2014. McNair said at the time he offered Kubiak a four-year deal, but the coach preferred to make it for three. "Our primary concern is of course with Garys health and well-being," Smith said.
